With ‘prime float//unitary perfect’, Anders Vestergaard presents his second solo album, released through the Copenhagen-based label, Anyines.

Vestergaard is a Danish drummer who works within the realms of experimental jazz and improvisation, ranging from his former projects such as Yes Deer and his collaborations with Evan Parker, Jacob Anderskov and Finn Loxbo.

‘prime float//unitary perfect’ is described as a completely new and different approach from Vestergaard’s more introvert predecessor, ‘eel’, released in 2016. With each track roughly running 18 minutes long, the music moves slowly through different states of equilibrium, leaving space for mind-and-body experiences rather than forcing an emotional reaction.

Drawing upon African drum music and contemporary club music, the new album is also said to be inspired by the Chinese art of standing meditation called Qiqong. Vestergaard elaborates this by explaining that “Though some of the beats are fast, the inner pace of the music is slow. That slowness and intensity derives from Qigong”.

With production and mix credits courtesy of Villads Klint, who also works under the moniker of Minais B and as a part of the Danish trio KhalilH20P, the album deserves a lot of attention and praise for its raw musicality and production value, making it a very interesting listen all the way throughout.

At the same time, ‘prime float//unitary perfect’ marks new terrain for Anyines, which slowly is building its reputation of becoming one of the most exciting independent labels out of Copenhagen to follow, with their creative and fresh take on release formats and unpredictable musical direction.
