Two weeks ago, Escho and G((o))ng Tomorrow created one of the most impressive concerts in recent memory when they constructed a live mixtape featuring both old and new Escho-affiliated names.
The six-hour celebration took place at Copenhagen Contemporary, and more than 50 artists performed on the three stages in various constellations to play mini-concerts or read poems. Each set spanned from 10 – 20 minutes and the musical diversity made it interesting all the way through. It never got boring and it was easier to concentrate when you only had to focus for such a short time.
An interesting choice in these digital days, where it can be hard to keep your attention for longer than the length of an Instagram-story. It can be discussed whether that's positive or negative, but nevertheless, it worked, and it's worth a thought. Should live experiences be shortened in the future?
The sound was surprisingly professional, the set design (created by Dicki Lakha and Sofie Højgaard) looked like a TV-show from the '70s, and the use of three different stages gave a constant feeling of movement. It perfectly symbolized what kind of label Escho is, and what they have resembled since their beginning in the mid-'00s. No direction, always in motion, always changing.
