END OF THE MONTH : 8 TRACKS THAT DESERVE YOUR ATTENTION
Posted
Selected by: Adam Emil Schierbeck, Henrik Koefod & Jonathan Holst Bruus
For this edition of our monthly highlights, we present you with nine tracks from this past month which may, or may not have gone under your radar. Either way, we definitely feel like these tracks are worth another share.
Yves Tumor - Gospel for a New Century
Yves Tumor’s latest single ‘Gospel for a New Century’ is a modern genre-blend drawing upon classic British 90’s rock anthems and sample-based Hip-Hop, to form together a piece of truly forward-thinking music. The forthcoming album, ‘Heaven To A Tortured Mind’, is set to release on the 4th of April on British label, Warp.
Fearless Dread – New Horizons
Back in the early 2000’s when the happy-go-lucky vibes of UK Garage saw intruders enter the scene in the shape of grime mc’s and bass-heads, a very interesting type of 2-step emerged. The dark, sub-low, griminess that later would become dubstep had a short-lived flirt with the swinging drums of UKG – and Fearless Dread’s track “New Horizons” is a prime example of that short-lived relationship.
Loke Rahbek & Frederik Valentin - The Heart of Things
Taken from their new album, Elephant, The Heart of Things is a mesmerizing work of ambient music that dwells between acoustic instrumentation and synthetically rendered sounds. The use of children's voices, minimalistic piano, and an almost Air-like guitar figure smoothly leads you through the track and delivers a sense of hopefulness that perfectly complements the arrival of Spring.
Coco Bryce – Born At A Young Age
Coco Bryce is back yet again with another 12” on his own label, Myor. Once again showcasing his wild skills in cutting and manipulating the classic amen break, this track is not as dark as some of his other tunes, but it surely maintains the energy that is Jungle – with all the right elements from pitch-shifts over flangers to snare‑rolls.
Lyra Valenza - Never Rest
Lyra Valenza has always been full of surprises, and thankfully that's also the case on Never Rest – their contribution to the recently released (and highly recommended) Kulør-compilation 006. What begins as a "classic" ambient experience suddenly turns into something completely different. An "energic ambient track" might seem totally out of place, but here it seems just about right.
Antonio Sorrentino – Luna Lu
NG Records from Berlin once again show the world their outrageous skills when it comes digging out the tracks you didn't know you needed in your life. This time the tracks have ended up on a compilation of unheard Neapolitan tracks that are so good they’ll make you choke on your espresso macchiato. There’s something for everyone with a bit of blues, disco, afro-beat, soul and everything in between. Andiamo!
X & Yde - Dares Soar
X & Yde is the alias for the collaborative project, between Copenhagen-based artists Xenia Xamanek and Ydegirl. ‘Dares Soar’ combines heavy drums, scattering synthesizers, entrancing vocals, and a beautiful saxophone-line to form a piece of highly creative experimental music. Out now as part of the Kulør 006 compilation .
Hard-hitting, colourful trance anthem from Clouds. Out now on Headstrong, the label run by himself, Dazza Dystopia and British producer Randomer.
